The Black Book

What makes a good crime thriller? A confusing crime scene, interesting characters, a complex plot, and unexpected bad guys.

The Black Book had only one of those: Good characters. Patterson is great at character development and creating vivid dynamic unique characters.

All the rest has really been lacking lately.

Out of 9 CDs of the audiobook, I figured it all out by the middle of disk 3.

So all things considered, if you want a good crime thriller and an exciting court case, try a James Sheehan instead.

I've read a lot of James Patterson books over the past few years, and this isn't the worst one, but it's definitely not on my list of recommendations for crime thrillers.
