The First Family
This book was so fun to listen to. I've felt burned out on thrillers fora while now, and The First Family has re-kindled my love for them.
The writing was solid, the characters were dynamic and well-rounded and full of life and reality. The audio was well-narrated. But the best part was the plot.
What I loved about this book most was the way it was interesting and exciting from the very first chapter, and the way mysteries were revealed. Minor spoiler here, but there's not one bad guy. There are multiple. And the way things seem to swirl around in a confused and tangled mess and then slowly start to reveal themselves one at a time keeps the excitement high throughout the whole piece. Rather than everything coming together to one moment, it's more like "A makes sense, but what about the rest? Okay now B makes sense, but what about C? Oh, turns out there's C, D, and E. NOW I get it. "
The medical aspect wasn't overpowering. I'd definitely call it a "medical crime thriller" but I wouldn't say everything was over my head (then again, I also listen to books like Deep Nutrition, The Healing Codes, and Atom Land for funsies.)
All in all, it was a refreshing thriller that was fun to read and exciting all the way through. I grinned through the whole last chapter (despite it being just a little cheesy and mushy).
